Prof. K C Chan
Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury
The Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region

Professor K.C. Chan was born in 1957. Before assuming the post of Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury, Professor Chan was Dean of Business and Management of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). Prior to joining the HKUST Business School in 1993, Professor Chan had spent nine years teaching at Ohio State University in the USA.

Professor Chan received his bachelor's degree in economics from Wesleyan University and both his M.B.A. and Ph.D. in finance from the University of Chicago. He is specialised in assets pricing, evaluation of trading strategies and market efficiency and has published numerous articles on these topics.

Before joining the Government, Professor Chan held a number of public service positions including Chairman of the Consumer Council; director of the Hong Kong Futures Exchange; member of the Commission on Strategic Development, Commission on Poverty, the Exchange Fund Advisory Committee, the Hang Seng Index Advisory Committee, and the Hong Kong Council for Academic Accreditation. Professor Chan is also former President of the Asian Finance Association and former President of Association of Asia Pacific Business Schools.

   
Martin Wheatley
Chief Executive Officer
Securities and Futures Commission

Mr. Wheatley became the executive Chairman on 1 October 2005 and subsequently was appointed to be the Commission’s first Chief Executive Officer on 23 June 2006. Mr. Wheatley’s current term will end on 30 September 2011.

Mr. Wheatley is a member of the FSB Sub-Committee on Standards Implementation, as well as the IOSCO Technical Committee. Currently, Mr. Wheatley chairs the IOSCO Technical Committee Task Force on Short Selling.

Prior to joining the SFC, Mr. Wheatley was Deputy Chief Executive of the London Stock Exchange.

Mr. Wheatley was also Chairman of the FTSE International and sat on the Listing Authority Advisory Committee of the Financial Services Authority of England.

Mr. Wheatley qualified as an accountant in 1984, has a degree in Philosophy and an MBA.

For close to a decade, Daniel has led the development of Strategic Insight’s Global fund research and consulting effort, and is widely sought after for presentations, discussions, and his perspective on the global asset management industry by associations, academia, regulators, the media and management boards of the firm’s over 250 clients worldwide. He has written extensively on the fund industry, including various books on Asia, the Middle East and Global Fund Distribution. He regularly conducts product and distribution master classes for CEOs and heads of asset management worldwide. Jacky Chan
CEO, Hong Kong and Macau
American International Assurance Company (Bermuda) Limited

Mr. Chan is the Chief Executive Officer, AIA Hong Kong & Macau effective September 2009. He is responsible for extending AIA’s market and distribution presence while developing new opportunities for sustained growth in Hong Kong & Macau.

Prior to that, Mr. Chan held several positions in AIA including the Country Head of AIA China, responsible for overall business performance and results in China markets. Other prior roles of Mr. Chan include Executive Vice President – Distribution & Marketing of Nan Shan Life Insurance, Taiwan.

In 1988, Mr. Chan joined Actuarial Department in AIA Co. Ltd. In 1996, Mr. Chan acted as Appointed Actuary of AIA Hong Kong & Macau and was named Vice President in the next year. In October 2002, Mr. Chan was appointed Vice President & Assistant General Manager of AIA Hong Kong & Macau. In July 2006, Mr. Chan served as Senior Vice President & Head of Life Profit Center of AIA - Asia (ex-Japan & Korea). He spearheaded various business strategies and project committees to achieve the objectives of enhancing profitability, product development and marketing efficiency in coordination with respective management teams. In October 2007, Mr. Chan took on the position of Executive Vice President – Distribution and Marketing of Nan Shan Life Insurance in Taiwan. In June 2008, Mr. Chan was the Country Head of AIA China.

Mr. Chan graduated from University of Hong Kong. He is a fellow of Society of Actuaries (FSA), a member of American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA) and a fellow of Canadian Institute of Actuaries (CIA).

   
Kerry Ching

Kerry Ching joined Fidelity International in December 2008 as Managing Director, Hong Kong to oversee Fidelity's operations in Hong Kong.

Kerry has extensive domestic and international experience, including several senior business leadership roles, in the asset management industry. Before joining Fidelity, Kerry had worked in UBS Global Asset Management Hong Kong Limited, Invesco Hong Kong Limited, and the Securities and Futures Commission.

Kerry is the Chairman of the Pensions Subcommittee and a member of the Executive Committee of the Hong Kong Investment Funds Association.

   
Ada Chiu

Ada joined HSBC in 2006 and has been responsible for the development of the direct banking business at both regional and country capacity. She is now Head of Direct Channels for HSBC Personal Financial Services Hong Kong and manages the Internet Banking, Express Banking and Phone Banking channel business.

Prior to joining HSBC, Ada was the General Manager of an international advertising agency. In addition to her place of birth, Hong Kong, Ada has lived and worked in Australia and the United States.

   
Christina Choi
Director of Investment Products
Securities and Futures Commission

Ms. Christina Choi is Director of the Investment Products Department of the Hong Kong SFC. The Department is responsible for the authorization and on-going regulation of collective investment schemes (unit trusts, mutual funds, REITs, hedge funds, exchange traded funds, etc.) that are offered to the Hong Kong public.

Ms. Choi is a member of the SFC Products Advisory Committee and Committee on Real Estate Investment Trusts. She is also one of the SFC senior representatives sitting on the CSRC QDII product experts committee.

Before joining the SFC, Ms. Choi was a Partner of the Corporate Group of the international law firm Clifford Chance.

   
Lieven Debruyne
HKIFA Executive Committee member

Lieven Debruyne is Chief Executive of Schroder Investment Management (Hong Kong) and Regional Head of Intermediary Business for Asia.

After starting his Investment career in 1993 in the United States with MeesPierson Capital Management, Mr. Debruyne moved to Hong Kong in 1994 as a fund manager covering Asia. He was promoted to Chief Investment Officer in 1998 before moving to Paris, France in 1999.

Mr. Debruyne joined Schroders in London in 2000 taking responsibility for the Asian product management and business development.

In 2005, he moved to Hong Kong and was appointed as Head of Intermediary Business for Asia.

Mr. Debruyne holds a Master of Science in Economics, Erasmus University, Rotterdam, The Netherlands.

   
Martyn Christopher Gilbey

Martyn Gilbey joined Mirae Asset Global Investments (Hong Kong) in July 2010 as Chief Marketing Officer, bringing with him more than 15 years’ experience in sales and marketing at financial institutions in UK & Europe. In his new role, he oversees sales and marketing activities as well as product and business development for Asia-Pacific region.

Prior to joining Mirae Asset, Martyn worked for ten years in European asset management firms and for the last seven years at London-based Insight Investment Ltd., where he was responsible for the business development unit, covering client acquisitions, transition management and servicing.

Martyn began his career at Barclays plc, where he was in their global graduate management development program. During his time at Barclays he gained experience in private, commercial, and investment banking, in addition to asset management.

He has a BA (Hons) in English Literature from University College London and the Investment Management Certificate from the CFA Society.

   
Nick Good
Managing Director, Head of iShares, Asia-Pacific
BlackRock

Nick Good, Managing Director, is the head of iShares, Asia-Pacific, responsible for the iShares business in Japan, Australia, Hong Kong and Singapore, covering sales, marketing, overall business strategy, investment and operational procedures for existing products and new product development.

Mr. Good's service with the firm dates back to 2006, including his years with Barclays Global Investors (BGI), which merged with BlackRock in 2009. At BGI, Mr. Good was CEO of iShares, Asia Pacific. Prior to taking this role, Mr. Good was Director of Strategy & Planning for iShares and BGI institutional index businesses globally, where he was responsible for strategy development, corporate development and management activities (including finance, HR and risk).

Before joining BGI, Mr. Good was a lead client manager at the Boston Consulting Group, where he provided consultation to clients from a number of industries.

Mr. Good is a graduate of Oxford University, where he studied biochemistry.

   
Michael Ha
HKIFA Pensions Subcommittee vice chairman

Michael Ha is the Director of Institutional Business of HSBC Global Asset Management (Hong Kong) Limited. He is responsible for developing the MPF business and the communication tools, as well as providing investment information and education to employees of MPF and member choice schemes. Michael has been working in the industry in Hong Kong since 1993. He joined HSBC Global Asset Management in 1999, initially in the Business Development team to develop institutional and retail investment (especially MPF) products and to establish client relationships in Hong Kong. In 2000, he was transferred to the Institutional Business Department. Prior to joining HSBC, Michael worked for AIG Asset Management Co. (Asia) Ltd. as Marketing Manager, and for Jardine Fleming Unit Trusts Ltd. as Business and Product Development Manager. Michael holds a BA in Economics and a BSc in Chemistry from McMaster University (Canada), and is a Certified Financial Planner (CFPCM). Michael is the Vice Chairman, Pensions Subcommittee of the Hong Kong Investment Funds Association.

   
Anthony Ho
Managing Director and Deputy Chief Executive Officer

Anthony was appointed to the role of Managing Director and Deputy Chief Executive Officer of China Asset Management (Hong Kong) Limited (“CAMHK”) in September 2009 and is based in Hong Kong. CAMHK is a subsidiary of China Asset Management Company (“ChinaAMC”) which is the largest fund management company in China. CAMHK was established to strategically develop the Asian business and investment capabilities. He brings leadership and a wealth of global investment experience and expertise to ChinaAMC.

Anthony previously worked for Fidelity International for over 15 years in investment management and research. He has held a number of senior positions in Hong Kong and London including Portfolio Manager, Head of Research and Head of Asian Institutional Investment.

Anthony holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Queensland and an MBA from the University of New South Wales in Australia. He is a Certified Practising Accountant of CPA Australia and a Fellow Member of Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

   
Patrick Ho

Patrick Ho has more than 10 years of management experience in the financial services industry across Singapore and Hong Kong, in a career spanning over 15 years. He joined iFAST Financial Singapore in 2000 and pioneered the successful development of the fundsupermart.com portal as its Chief Technological Officer. Patrick is currently Managing Director of iFAST Financial Hong Kong, responsible for the overall running of its online and platform businesses in the SAR. He holds a Bachelor of Applied Science degree from Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. When not working, Patrick enjoys spending time with his family, blogging, hiking and participating in running races. He has completed 3 full Marathons with a personal best timing of 4 hours sharp.

   
Michael Huddart
Executive Vice President & Chief Executive Officer, Hong Kong

Michael Huddart is Executive Vice President and Chief Executive Officer, Hong Kong, Manulife (International) Limited, and the Chief Executive of Manulife Asset Management (Hong Kong) Limited. He is responsible for the overall development of Manulife’s business operation in Hong Kong, including individual insurance, employee benefits and wealth management. He also sits on the Board of the above two companies.

Under Mr. Huddart’s leadership, Manulife’s operations in Hong Kong have grown substantially with vibrant insurance, wealth-management and pension businesses. There has also been significant growth from both the tied agency and independent distribution channels, with more than 4,440 tied agents and a large number of distribution partners.

Mr. Huddart is very active in the Hong Kong insurance industry. He is a member of the Insurance Advisory Committee, chaired by the Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury, that advises the Hong Kong Chief Executive on matters relating to the administration of the Insurance Companies Ordinance and the carrying on of insurance business in Hong Kong. He is also Chairman of the Insurance Claims Complaints Bureau, having served as Chairman of the Hong Kong Federation of Insurers (HKFI) from 2007 to 2008, and
Chairman of the HKFI’s Life Insurance Council from 2006 to 2007, and he continues to be the Chairman/Deputy Chairman of a number of HKFI Task Forces. He is also a member of the Professional Ethics Review Board of the Institute of Financial Planners of Hong Kong and of the organising committee for the HKMA Quality Award.

From 2000 to 2003, Mr. Huddart was General Manager of Manulife Taiwan, where he led the business to new heights with a premium growth of more than 1,000 per cent during his four-year tenure. He also established Manulife Taiwan’s leadership position by introducing the first investment-linked as well as the first universal-variable life products in the market.

Before moving to Taiwan, Mr. Huddart was Vice President for Business Development in Asia, based in Hong Kong. He was instrumental in several Manulife acquisitions (including that of the Japan business) and market entries in Asia. He has also been Manulife’s Chief Actuary in Indonesia as well as the President Director of
its former pension consulting business there.

Mr. Huddart holds a Bachelor of Science (honours) degree in actuarial science from City University in London, is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia, an Associate of the Society of Actuaries (USA) and also holds a Graduate Diploma in Financial Planning from the Financial Services Institute of Australia. His more than 30 years of practical experience in the life-insurance and pension-consulting fields have included many leadership positions.

   
Barney Loehnis

Barney Loehnis joined Ogilvy in February 2010 to head up OgivlyOne’s digital offering across Asia Pacific and to help integrate digital services seamlessly across the Ogilvy Group. Barney joined from Isobar where he built and lead Aegis’s digital network across APAC, culminating in 2009 when Carat / Isobar won Media Asia Pacific “Agency of the Year”.

Prior to coming to Asia four years ago Barney ran Warner Bros’ Online division across EMEA and managed the commercial development as well as marketing strategies for all WB releases from 2001-2005; prior to that he developed digital services and eCommerce for the UK’s largest book, music and DVD retailer and in 2000 he helped launch Citikey – a pioneering mobile city guide service - which delivered location based content to phones and PDA’s in 17 cities across Europe.

On leaving school Barney walked 6,000kms from Istanbul back to London, in 1989. He went on to read Philosophy at Bristol University. In 1993 Barney then embarked on a journey walking 9,000kms across China, and was the first person to retrace Mao’s Long March on foot.

   
Dr. Billy Mak

Professor Billy S.C. Mak is an Associate Professor of Department of Finance & Decision Sciences and Associate Director of MBA Programme (HK Class) at Hong Kong Baptist University. His research interests include equity market, derivatives, financial planning and real estate. He published academic articles in international refereed journals, and the author of more than ten books. The books covered the areas of equity, futures and options, warrants, wine appreciation and investment. The books were published in Hong Kong, Taiwan and Mainland China.

Dr. Mak was the examiner of Hong Kong Stock Exchange, Hong Kong Securities Institute and the Institute of Financial Planners of Hong Kong.

Besides his academic works, he is the radio programme guest host of RTHK One and Metro Finance Radio. He currently has columns in Hong Kong Economic Times and AM730, writing articles on finance. In the past, he contributed articles for Ming Pao, Sing Tao, Apple Daily and Hong Kong Economic Journal Monthly and various newspapers and magazines.

He always provides viewpoints on current financial issue in mass media, including, TVB, ATV, RTHK, China Daily, Phoenix TV, SCMP, Bloomberg, USA Today and various newspapers.

His current positions in public services include:

Darren McShane

Mr. McShane has been an Executive Director of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority for over 8 years. He heads the Regulation & Policy Division, which is responsible for investment regulation, policy development, research and legal services. Prior to his time at the MPFA, he held various senior roles with the Australian Securities Investment Commission (ASIC) and before that he also worked with the Investment Management Regulatory Organisation Ltd. (IMRO), the former fund management regulator in the United Kingdom. Prior to his regulatory roles he practised as a Barrister in Australia.

   
Damien Mooney
Head of Regional Marketing Initiatives, Asia Pacific

Mr. Damien Mooney is Head of Regional Marketing Initiatives for Fidelity International in the Asia Pacific region with oversight responsibility for marketing across all lines of business. He is a seasoned executive in the field of financial services marketing including brand management, investment communications and product management with first-hand international experience in Asia Pacific as well as in Europe, Latin America and the Middle East. Damien joined Fidelity in January 2003 and held senior roles in product & marketing in Europe, before relocating to Hong Kong in September 2006 to develop and manage the investment marketing functions across Fidelity’s lines of business in Asia Pacific. In addition, Damien presents to clients on a range of investment topics to help advance communications on issues pertaining to investors. Prior to joining Fidelity, Damien held senior product and international marketing positions at Zurich International and Prudential in London. A native of Ireland, he is an honours post-graduate in Business Administration from the School of Business, University of Limerick and honours graduate in Property Economics from Trinity College, University of Dublin. He also holds the Securities Representative, Investment Management Certificate and Levels 1, 2 and 3 of the Financial Planning Certificate designations (UK).

   
Desmond Ng
HKIFA Chairman 

Desmond Ng joined Invesco in September 2006 as Head of Institutional Business for Asia ex-Japan. In November 2008, he became Chief Operating Officer, Head of Sales and Marketing, Asia ex-Japan, responsible for institutional and retail client activities throughout the region. In addition, drawing on his extensive experience across various business aspects in the Asia ex-Japan region, Mr. Ng builds and oversees a common service platform for the region, including marketing, product development and client service activities. Mr. Ng was previously with JF Asset Management Hong Kong, where he held various senior positions in institutional marketing, product and business development.

Mr. Ng has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Management and a Master of Business Administration degree from Clark University, Massachusetts, USA. He served as vice-chairman of the Executive Committee of the Hong Kong Investment Funds Association for 2008/2009 and was appointed Chairman of the Association for the year 2009/2010.

   
Joe Ngai

Joe Ngai is a Partner in McKinsey & Company’s Hong Kong office, and is a core leader of McKinsey’s Insurance and Asset Management practice in Asia. He is a co-author of "Life Insurance in Asia: Winning in the Next Decade", an authoritative text on the Asian life insurance industry. He is a sought-after speaker, and is a regular contributor on industry and media forums.

Over the past ten years, Joe has worked with many of the leading multinational and domestic financial institutions spanning across all the major markets in Asia. His range of work covers strategy, major transformation programs, acquisitions, setting up of joint ventures, market entry, as well as operations optimization projects.

He received his AB from Harvard University (Economics), his J.D. from Harvard Law School and his MBA from Harvard Business School. He sits on the board of several non-profits, and is particularly passionate about social enterprises, and youth development.

   
Terry Pan
HKIFA Vice Chairman

Terry Pan, Managing Director, is Head of Hong Kong Business for J.P. Morgan Asset Management. Before taking up his current position in 2006, Terry spent three years as head of Intermediary Sales, responsible for the distribution of the firm's pooled products via a wide distribution network of retail and private banks, insurance companies and IFAs in Hong Kong and Macau. He first joined the firm in 1994, left for two years, and rejoined in 2003. In 2001 Terry joined Hutchison CSFB direct as sales director and was appointed executive director - sales following Bank of China International's acquisition of the firm. Prior to that he spent seven years with Jardine Fleming, working in several areas, including sales, investment services and project management, before transferring to the firm's then joint venture with PCCW, 2cube Securities, in 2000 where he was vice president - sales. Terry obtained a BA in finance and real estate from Southern Methodist University, Dallas, Texas and an MBA from Royal Holloway, University of London. He is also a holder of the CFA designation.

   
David Rossiter

David Rossiter joined the Hospital Authority (HA) in 2002. His career started in the retail industry in a range of different roles from generalist Human Resources (HR) Management to Specialist Industrial Relations and a number of senior business leadership roles in Australia’s Largest Retailer. From there, he spent 2 years in HR in Public Health Care. The following six years, he worked with what was at the time, Australia’s Largest Private Health provider leading the HR team for a group of some 60 hospitals and numerous private Pathology and Diagnostic Imaging practices during a period of rapid expansion through organic and acquisition growth. Immediately prior to moving to Hong Kong to take up his current role, he held a senior HR Leadership role with a US based global Medical Devices manufacturer and supplier.

In his current role, he provides leadership in the full range of HR services including remuneration and benefits.

   
Rachel So
Veteran media professional

Graduated from the University of Hong Kong, Ms So joined the media industry for over 15 years as a financial journalist. Additionally, she obtained a Bachelor Degree in Laws from the Law Schools of University of London in 2008. During the period with ATV, Ms So conducted different projects, including the ABN Financial Weekly (荷銀實戰攻防), HSBC title-sponsored SME TV series (小本大生意) and the TVC for HSBC’s New Flagship Center (理財新態), as well as the SME project (再創驕陽) for PVCHK. Ms So was also the executive producer of Money Talks (金錢世界) and Wealth Blog (理財博客) before she left the company.

She is currently the Investor Relations Manager of Brightoil Petroleum (Holdings) Ltd.

   
Marco Tang
HKIFA Unit Trust Subcommittee member

Marco Tang is Head of Intermediary Sales, J.P.Morgan Asset Management. Based in Hong Kong, he is responsible for distribution of the firm's pooled product via retail banks, private banks, insurance companies and IFAs in Hong Kong and Macau. Marco first joined the firm in 1999 and stayed for three years, latterly in intermediary sales. He rejoined in 2005 as a vice president in the Intermediary sales team before taking up his current position in 2006. In 2002, Marco joined HSBC Asset Management Hong Kong Ltd where he was a manager in the sales division. He then spent two years as a senior sales manager responsible for retail bank distribution with Allianz Global Investors Hong Kong Ltd. Marco obtained a BC in finance from the University of New South Wales, Sydney Australia.

   
Eleanor Wan

Eleanor Wan, Chief Executive Officer of Institute of Financial Planners of Hong Kong, a seasoned professional specialized in asset management in Asia. During her last over 15 years of working history in asset management business, she involved in various functions including marketing, sales, client servicing and general business management.

Before joining the Institute of Financial Planners, Eleanor was the chief executive officer of Allianz Global Investors (HK) Ltd. Besides being responsibility of the overall business development and management of the company, she also took lead as the key relationship manager in Asia for multinational distributors and set up the training curriculum for their sales and marketing professionals globally.

Eleanor was an active member of the Hong Kong Investment Funds Association from 2003 to 2008. Besides being the vice-chairman of the association from 2006-2008, she had also chaired the sub-committees responsible for regulatory development and promotion of fund industry in Hong Kong. Eleanor is currently a board member of the Hong Kong Deposit Protection Board under Hong Kong Monetary Authority and she is the chairman of its Investment Committee.

   
Sam Yu

Sam Yu (20 years’ industry experience) is the Head of Legal and Compliance – Asia-Pacific of GAM Hong Kong Limited. Prior to joining GAM in March 2005, Mr Yu was the head of risk management for the Royal Bank of Canada's wealth management business in Asia. Before joining RBC, he was a senior manager in the Financial Services Group of Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu. Prior to this, he had working experience at Lehman Brothers, Bankers Trust and Deloitte & Touche in New York. Mr. Yu is a Certified Public Accountant in the United States and holds a BSc in Business Administration from Boston University, Massachusetts. He is based in Hong Kong.
