WCE HK has 4 workstreams. This Summit is led by the Advocacy workstream under the leadership of senior executives from organisations such as Standard Chartered, UBS, and HKEX. Hong Kong's inaugural Women Chief Executives Summit was held on November 3, 2025. The Summit reflects a marked rise in women taking senior positions across the city's financial sector in recent years. A joint report by the Women Chief Executive Network, KPMG and the Women's Foundation found women now hold 45% of senior leadership roles, up from 34% in 2018, and 37% of financial-sector board seats, up from 21%.

Though gender parity on boards remains some way off, HKEX's ban on single-gender boards has almost eradicated them, a move welcomed as “confidence-building” for investors. With the summit set to gather over 200 C-suite executives, leaders such as UBS's Amy Lo credit Hong Kong's safety, entrepreneurial culture and pragmatism for fostering diversity that “feels organic, not imposed.”

Hong Kong's growing number of women in senior finance and professional roles bodes well for the city's talent development and economic growth, Financial Secretary Paul Chan Mo-po said at the inaugural Women Chief Executives Summit. He cited the KPMG report showing women hold 45% of senior finance leadership roles, up 11 points since 2018, with Hong Kong ranking top globally for societal acceptance of female leaders.

The half-day summit was attended by more than 200 C-suite women leaders, including many who flew in from overseas, marking the largest conference ever held with the theme of women’s leadership.

Unlike most global financial centres, Hong Kong now counts a growing number of women among its top banking leaders, including UBS's Amy Lo, Standard Chartered's Mary Huen and HKEX's Bonnie Chan. As co-organisers of the inaugural Women Chief Executives Summit, they are part of Women Chief Executives Hong Kong (WCE): a network that grew from informal lunches into a formal body of 60 women CEOs in 2018, spanning working groups on advocacy, education, well-being and young talent.

Its hallmark is an unlikely alliance of competitors in a guarded industry, a bond Huen says was forged during Covid. Unlike Sheryl Sandberg's individualistic "Lean In" ethos, WCE champions structural change and collective progress.

Women are increasingly reaching senior positions and board seats across Hong Kong's financial sector, driven by regulatory reform and corporate diversity efforts, according to the joint report by the Women Chief Executive Network, KPMG and the Women's Foundation. It is found that women now hold 45% of senior leadership roles in banks, asset management, insurance and fintech, up from 34% in 2018; while female board representation climbed to 37%, from 21%.
