Before his retirement in January 2010, Mr. Choi was Deputy Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA), in charge of the full range of banking stability issues.

Mr. Choi started his career as a central banker in 1974 when he joined the then Office of the Commission of Banking which was responsible for banking supervision in Hong Kong at that time. He advanced to the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Banking in 1990 and was appointed Head (Banking Policy) upon the establishment of the HKMA in 1993. He was then appointed Executive Director (Banking Supervision) in 1995 and advanced to the position of Deputy Chief Executive in June 2005 to take charge of monetary management, financial infrastructure, reserves management, and strategy and risk issues until transferred to become Deputy Chief Executive in September 2007.

John Foulley joined SAS in May 2004 to provide assistance to the region in the field of Risk Management. He had previously worked for banks, brokerage, and technology vendors and has more than 15 years experience in the Banking Industry.

John is no stranger to implementation and the real life challenges of the implementation of Risk Management solutions to large and small organisation. He has worked for project including banks of all sizes from Hong-Kong, Malaysia and Australia to the United Kingdom.

He also worked for information providers and analytical pricing provider, giving him a practical knowledge of front-office applications and pricing of the most sophisticated derivative instruments. John also worked in the banking and brokerage industry, namely for Credit Lyonnais (France) and Bosher (France).

He is currently assisting the Asia-Pacific region on leveraging the many opportunities that exists in the field of Risk Management, providing market intelligence and Basel II knowledge to his customers and prospects.

John provides the market knowledge related to the regulatory development of Basel II and the application of the directive in the Asia Pacific countries.

He also participates in conferences where he shares SAS experience and knowledge on Basel II and Operational risk. Speaking engagement this year include appearance at SAS own events, PRMIA events and Asia Business Forum. He has also appeared on Business Tonight, Channel News Asia.

John received a Master in Finance from Nice ESC in France. He also majored in Business Management from Nice University and International Business School in Paris. He has been living in Asia for the past 6 years.
